Happy Chinese/Lunar New Year 2018 - Year of the Dog

It's the Year of the Dog 🐢 this year. It's a bit late than usual, but the Lunar calendar says it's in February this year. 😜 The Lunar calendar year is 4716. Actually quite fascinated that life has existed for so long and we've still not discovered alien existence. πŸ˜…

Is there a Chinese/Lunar New Year story we could talk about this year? (I'll say Lunar, as the new year is celebrated with other Asian countries like Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam). Well one story, which one of my Canadian friends reminded me about was the upside down Chinese character 福 (Canto: fuk (pronounced like foork... so don't try and say the swear word!; Mando: fu). Here's a short story I found on YouTube...

In short summary, during the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor was angry at the people who talked badly about him. His wife Empress Ma suggested that everyone should hang their η¦ signs upside down to bring in happiness from the outside to the inside...

πŸ˜‰ Enjoy the holiday! Taking a day off on Monday. A well deserved break. πŸΆπŸ•πŸΆπŸ•

Meza Restaurant - London Tooting Broadway

Had a tough time at work last week. Still having a bad week this week too. πŸ˜– I wish I had a month off...

Happy Valentine's Day too!! 😍

I don't often eat Lebanese food but it was an option for Ms LuFu and Mr Yellowcloak. We ended up at this place as Ms LuFu was decorating and couldn't come up to Central London, so I was browsing the Internet on what we could eat around the Tooting Broadway area...

And I found this place called Meza. Tooting Broadway area is known for their Indian and Asian spices (as I was so told by one of my colleagues) but Ms LuFu and Mr Yellowcloak don't like spicy foods, and I don't think Ms LuFu eats out in her area much. She likes Lebanese food though! Phew!

A few minutes away from Tooting Broadway Tube restaurant is this small restaurant. It got very busy as our food came along... Customers kept coming and going!

All three of us (although only 2 cups showing here) had a pot of mint tea. It was really tasty even without sugar.

We ordered a few starters... this one's hummus with flatbread.

These hot pastries were AMAZING! Yum yum!! I don't usually like pastries with like a solid edging, because they taste quite dry and tough when you eat them. That's not the case with these. They were nice and warm, easy to bite into and very appetizing. We had two different kinds, soft cheese (Sambousek Jebneh) and lamb mince (Sambousek Lahmeh). I preferred the soft cheese!!

Ms LuFu had the falafels. They looked humungous!

She also had these... a lamb sort of pastry...

Mr YellowCloak decided to go with the fish of the day (sea bass)... That looked amazing! I wish I ordered the fish...

But I decided on the mixed grill... My desire to have lots of meat that night... ^_^ All of it was grilled nicely. Superb!

We even got a free piece of cake, but Ms LuFu decided not to have her piece - not a coconut lover. ^_^ So lucky!!

Total came to £52.31. Not bad for the three of us. Mr YellowCloak attempted to pay in Scottish pounds, and got away with it, no glances like what we get in the other restaurants we go to... Phew! Sometimes we get embarrassed with these attempts. 😌

My geeky rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(5/5)

Good points:
- Polite service
- Good starters (hot and cold plates)
- Enjoyed the mint tea

Bad points:
- Nothing that I can think of...

Constancia - London Tanner Street

Stepping into an Argentine steakhouse... Luckily I was craving steak that week...

Surprisingly one of my uncles, from MummyGeek's side, and his family moved into London recently. They had lived in Plymouth for more than two decades and then decided to pack it all in and come to with live us for a fun life I guess. Heheheh. Probably Plymouth was too boring for them...

On this day I just started learning to drive, and I was practically scared to death. I may have a nice instructor but I think I'm going to be awful... After the lesson I went to Miss Pinky's to drown my sorrows...

And not far from where Miss Pinky and co. live is an Argentine steakhouse. It was my aunt's birthday that week - that's how we ended up there... Apparently my cousins work around where Miss Pinky lives - for nearly a year, and we didn't know... Woah. Close to home... We haven't seen my uncle and family for around 10 years. I think we were all too busy to talk and have a get together... And now I think we'll be seeing them more often... πŸ˜…

My youngest cousin of the two (who apparently dines at this place quite often) ordered for us all... Looks like he knows more about food than I do. Heheheh. Quite the meat eater. Five of us had the Parrillada but without the black pudding. And I took pictures as usual - thankfully my cousins didn't think I was a strange person! Phew!

Mr Stingy seemed to have gone all vegetarian. He's a diabetic now. So low calories, low fat, no sugar diet for him. I must do the same... πŸ˜ͺ

Here's some grilled Italian cheese.

And here's my dinner plate... 😍

I had a rare steak! It was really rare... Sometimes restaurants cook rare and make it medium rare. Not in this case. I've grown accustomed to eating raw meat, but it was almost tough to cut through where the muscle and fat join together. Sausage was grilled nicely. Potatoes cooked nicely... Hmmm, this makes me want to find another steakhouse... There's actually one in East Street Market, maybe I should go and try it out. I was stuffed after this!

Time for dessert... I had this lemon sorbet with sparkling white wine... Oooooh. I could feel the alcohol seeping through my blood. The elder-younger cousin also had one of these without the alcohol... Weren't sure if I should've just drunk the white wine out of the cup instead of spooning it. Heheh. πŸ˜…

Here's the other desserts... MummyGeek and Mr Stingy didn't have any... Nothing to offer for diabetics unfortunately...

Well, I think the total cost was over £200. My uncle and aunt paid. Hmmm, maybe we should meet once a year for this type of dining... we should pay our individual meals next time!

It's a nice place to go to, but we got quite a dark corner... I bet It'll be busy during Valentine's Day!

My geeky rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟(4.5/5) - I can't find a half star πŸ˜…

Good points:
- Polite service
- Steaks were cooked on point
- Desserts were great... but no diabetic choices - apart from the cheese board.

Bad points:
- A bit expensive
- I can't understand why it has to be dark inside...

Echigo Cheese Mochi Crackers チーズもけ

Ah, just missed this blog's 6th birthday! Happy Birthday to A Simple Geeky Life Blog!! ^_^ Haven't blogged much in the past year... This year might be the same as I'm spending more on learning to drive. I actually don't like driving but forcing myself to do it to encourage Miss Pinky to do her theory test and also getting Miss Vegan to also take lessons, and also to get Mrs Sweettooth to redo her theory and do the test... OMG. I should be called The Encouraging Geek!

This does not mean I'm going to get a car. I'm still one of those peeps who think cars will destroy our air quality and environment. 😜

I've not blogged about a snack for a bit, so here's one I bought from Dokodemo a while back. I bought a maxium of 5 bags, as they won't let you buy more on the website. I guess it's because of packing size and then it has to be shipped from Japan. I still think postage is too much though... I always select the cheapest option, but it still costs a lot.

This snack is called Cheese Mochi. I've been trying to find cheese rice crackers which I used to buy in Japan Centre, but can't find them anymore... πŸ˜“

They're quite cheap on the website...

Uh-oh, they expire soon... and I have two packs left!!

They look quite biggish...

And they taste awesome. They're light and fluffy on the inside. It reminds of eating cheese puffs, but less salty, creamy cheese in taste... they taste like non-salty crackers within a cheese puff...

Eating my second to last packet. Tastes so creamy!

Individual pack: 0.64p! (SO cheap online) ...  just don't forget about P&P!
